    Spain | Assessing the impact of extreme climate events: Evidence from the Valencia Floods

    This note proposes a framework to estimate the employment effects of floods in Spain, combining imputed damage data with a spatial panel model. These extreme events cause job losses and regional spillovers, but timely aid mitigates them. The DANA in Valencia illustrates the frameworks' accuracy and its policy relevance.

    Mexico | Oil-related income falls sharply below budget in 1Q25

    The Historical Balance of Public Sector Borrowing Requirements (HBPSBR) was 51.4% of GDP at the end of 2024. We expect the HBPSBR to be 53.0% at year-end with a public deficit and PSBR of 3.8% and 4.3% of GDP, respectively.

    Annual inflation in April surprises on the upside (5.2%), driven by regulated items and goods. Core inflation (excluding food) also increases. Doubts persist regarding the speed of future moderation. This result may lead to upward revisions of forecasts and uncertainty about the future monetary policy stance.

    Peru | BCRP cuts policy rate by 25 bps, bringing it close to its neutral level

    At its May meeting, the Board of the Central Bank lowered the reference interest rate to 4.50%. The monetary policy stance, understood as the ex-ante real reference rate, thus stands close to the level estimated to be neutral.
